  • Overview

    This position is responsible for supporting the business and operations of the pharmacy with technical and supportive services, helping to achieve pharmacy operation goals, objectives, policies and procedures.


    • Processes payments and aging of claims for reconciliation
    • Completes compliance requests and billing/financial reports
    • Prepares and presents relevant reports to Finance on a regular basis and upon request in conjunction with PIC
    • Assists in quality and compliance improvement activities such as the development of policies and procedures as it relates to pharmacy operations
    • Helps to develop the pharmacy operations budget and oversees expenditures
    • Advises and assists on pharmacy equipment and resources purchases/budgets
    • Purchases supplies including shipping supplies, office supplies and printed supplies
    • Supports recruiting, selecting, hiring and training of qualified pharmacy technician candidates and educational partners
    • Processes and files audit consent forms
    • May be asked to represent pharmacy in marketing at provider meetings, location meetings, and at community events
    • Assists with bi-monthly drug inventory reconciliations, to include overstock returns, shortages, and/or errors, and collaborate with Pharmaceutical & Therapeutics (P&T) changes to formulary to ensure ordering of appropriate medications for multiple inventories
    • SIGIS Point of Sale data uploads
    • Process returns to stock regularly in compliance with Center for Medicare (CMS) requirements
    • Reconcile daily drug orders with invoices provided by wholesalers, and drug manufacturers
    • Liaison for Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances projects
    • Serves as one of the system administrators for pharmacy software in conjunction with 340B Compliance Coordinator and the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC)
    • Maintains provider files in QS1 in conjunction with 340B Compliance Coordinator
    • Ensure all tasks assigned and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and CommUnityCare Standard Operating Procedures and CommUnityCare Policies and Procedures, as well as the overall mission and values of the organization
    • Develop and maintain favorable customer relationships, internal relationships and fosters a team environment
    • Ensure all actions, job performances, personal conduct and communications represent CommUnityCare in a highly professional manner at all times.
    • Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure
    • Coordinate and support pharmacy administration duties with other pharmacy department team members when needed
    • Performs the duties of Pharmacy Technician when needed
    • Special pharmacy projects and other duties as assigned

    • Demonstrate knowledge of medical/pharmaceutical terms and nomenclature
    • Knowledgeable in pharmaceutical operations
    • Demonstrate familiarity with tools, technology, and systems typically found within most health care environments (i.e. computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing, EMR systems, pharmacy software etc.) and use these tools to process prescriptions, scan information, and create reports or invoices including financial and compliance reports
    • Experience on Point of Sale system including cashiering and reconciling
    • Demonstrate knowledge of 340B and HIV programs


    MINIMUM EDUCATION:  Associate’s Degree and Certified Pharmacy Technician Course. 3 years’ pharmacy technician experience may be considered in lieu of Associate’s Degree


    PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field


    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:   At least five years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician is required


    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  Pharmacy Operations Management experience such as a Lead Technician role



    1. Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
