  • Overview

    The Managed Care Pharmacist will be responsible for oversight of the CommUnityCare’s pharmacy benefit programs including development and maintenance of multiple formularies. In addition, the Managed Care Pharmacist will support organizational initiatives by providing expertise in matters related to the provision of pharmacy services. The Managed Care Pharmacist is expected to perform autonomously and in a leadership position.


    Essential Duties:

    • Review and evaluate prescription services provided to Travis County Healthcare District’s patients
    • Oversee day-to-day non-formulary reviews, pharmacy benefits call center and pharmacy claims processing
    • Perform drug use evaluations, drug information, pipeline review and present formulary recommendations to Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee.
    • Measure impact of changes to the formulary. Analyze pharmacy spend and trends. Prepare executive summaries for leadership and develop assumptions for financial modeling.
    • Develop initiatives and strategies to enhance pharmacy access and manage costs.
    • Identify and develop metrics to determine compliance with initiatives.
    • Review performance of various vendors of pharmacy services, ensure contractual performance standards are met, and conduct routine audits of contracted service providers.
    • Participate on multidisciplinary committees at the discretion of leadership.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and CommUnityCare Standard Operating Procedures and CommUnityCare Policies and Procedures.
    • Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co-workers, including clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers and business office staff.
    • Develop and maintain favorable relationships with external partners.
    • Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent CommUnityCare in a highly professional manner at all times.
    • Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all company policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
    • Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure.



    • Knowledge of 340B drug discount program, reimbursement for clinic-administered medications, patient assistance programs, pharmaceutical pricing, pharmacy benefits management, dispensing operations.
    • Critical thinking/problem solving
    • Must be able to verbally communicate proficiently and present yourself professionally to a variety of audiences
    • Demonstrate a high level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service.
    • Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in managed care pharmacy issues and procedures.
    • Proficiency with software programs (Excel, Word, Access, Power Point,), Tableau and wholesaler online operations.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Texas-state pharmacy licensure


    MINIMUM EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)


    PREFERRED EDUCATION: At least 1 year of Residency Training


    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:  2 year of clinical pharmacy experience and/or managed care pharmacy experience


    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  5 years of clinical pharmacy and/or managed care pharmacy experience


    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:  Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Texas
