  • Overview

    This position is responsible for leading and overseeing the technical and supportive services in preparation, filling and delivery of prescription medications to patients and other tasks associated with prescription services under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. 

    Responsibilities

    • Supports in providing leadership and direction to Pharmacy Technician staff and trainees
    • Organizes and coordinates with the Pharmacist-In-Charge the daily activities and work schedules of the Pharmacy Technician staff and trainees
    • Assist in resolving patient issues/complaints when required
    • Coordinates with the pharmacy team to resolve prescription issues to prevent delays to patient care
    • Assist in the recruiting, selecting, hiring and training of qualified pharmacy technicians or trainee candidates
    • Assists the PIC in the performance evaluation of staff
    • Assists with returns to stock processing for compliance with Center for Medicare (CMS) requirements
    • Processes bulk replenishment orders
    • Coordinates procurement and inventory activities to ensure pharmacy stocks are maintained
    • Maintains supply inventory for shipping, office, printed materials, equipment and other needed resources
    • Serves as back-up to other compliance/administrative staff on managing compliance requests, billing/financial reports, processing payments and aging for reconciliation of claims
    • Supports needed pharmacy data maintenance and records management
    • Coordinate care with Prescription Assistance Program (PAP) staff and process PAP orders, per protocol
    • Use established protocol with call-center and phone system
    • Assist patients face-to-face
    • Process prescriptions via data entry into pharmacy management software
    • Fulfillment of FDA Repackaging and Relabeling warehouse orders for drugs, supplies, and devices, to include repackaging and relabeling medications to standards of FDA rules, cleaning and maintenance of the warehouse equipment, and maintenance and upkeep of the warehouse records
    • Reconcile daily drug orders with invoices provided by wholesalers, and drug manufacturers
    • Maintain at least bi-month drug inventory reconciliations, to include overstock returns, shortages, and/or errors
    • Update Pharmaceutical & Therapeutics (P&T) changes to formulary to ensure ordering of appropriate medications for multiple inventories, including software updates, staff education, and changes to PAR levels
    • Refills and maintains automated dispensing systems.
    • Prepares orders and maintains inventory for the pharmacy department.
    • Repackages bulk medications.
    • Receives and stores incoming supplies.
    • Serves as liaison between pharmacy, patient and health professional by providing information as necessary
    • Trains incoming Pharmacy Staff at assigned Pharmacy as well as other Pharmacies within CUC
    • Maintain and Train staff on ScriptPro Dispensing Machine functions
    • Maintenance of ScriptPro Dispensing Machine, schedules any maintenance work needed
    • Oversees Pharmacy ordering trends
    • Participate in group discussions or meetings as needed
    • Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and CommUnityCare Standard Operating Procedures and CommUnityCare Policies and Procedures, as well as the overall mission and values of the organization
    • Develop and maintain favorable customer relationships, internal relationships and fosters a team environment
    • Collaborate with all members of the care team in providing patient-centered care
    • Ensure all actions, job performances, personal conduct and communications represent CommUnityCare in a highly professional manner at all times
    • Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure
    • Provides pharmacy technician duties coverage when needed to assist in the preparation, filling and delivery of prescription medications to patients
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Ability to accurately interpret provider’s orders and refer questionable orders to the appropriate clinical staff
    • High level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service
    • Demonstrate knowledge of medical/pharmaceutical terms and nomenclature
    • Demonstrate familiarity with tools, technology, and systems typically found within most health care environments (i.e. personal computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing, patient records systems, EMR systems, Pharmacy software etc.) and use these tools to process prescriptions, scan information, and create invoices for patients
    • Experience on Point of Sale system including cashiering, and reconciling
    • Effective communications to patients on policies for delivery service and learn system requirements to complete deliveries
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Demonstrate knowledge of basic Spanish
    • Demonstrate knowledge of 340B, HIV programs
