  • Overview

    Under general direction, analyzes, designs, and evaluating information and communication systems that enhance individual patient and population health outcomes, and improve patient care.


    Essential duties:

     Analyzes data to help facilitate decisions and actions.
     Works with operational stakeholders to develop data-driven solutions to improve patient health.
     Collaborates with other departments in the healthcare system to reduce expenses through strategic data analysis.
     Designs and implements tools to measure data, patient care effectiveness, and processes.
     Oversees the implementation and use of the clinical informatics systems, including population health management and analytics tools, in order to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
     Provide direct link between the organizations data analytics team, performance improvement, clinical leadership and patient outcomes, resulting in better decision making regarding quality improvement efforts.
     Direct the development and use of indicators that monitor and evaluate quality of care, services and experience provided to patients.
     Serves as co-chair the Quality and Performance Improvement Committee.
     Participates in the development and execution of improvement strategies, including clinical efforts for improved patient outcomes, improved efficiencies and reduced variations in care.
     Provides analytical, technical, and problem resolution with clinical information and population health management technology as it relates to the end-user (clinical/provider) accessibility, usability, workflow/processes, policies and procedures.
     Communicates and promotes the use of informatics to clinical staff, senior leadership, board committees, and any other designated individuals by presenting and discussing approaches to support safe patient-centered care.
     Develop, implement, and refine clinical decision support systems as needed.
     Lead the procurement, customization, development, implementation, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems.



     Ability to use knowledge of healthcare, information systems, databases and information technology security to gather, store, interpret, and manage data.
     Ability to understand data systems and medical policies and procedures.
     Ability to analyze complex problems and make recommendations based on research interests of clinical staff, senior leadership, availability of data, and research methodology considerations.
     Ability to work with strict confidentiality requirements, as well as utilize good judgment in the preparation and distribution of confidential information.
     Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and activities on a routine basis with minimal supervision.
     Previous experience in data systems is required.
     Excellent communication skills including oral, written and public presentation.
     Strong knowledge of and the ability to effectively utilize all Microsoft Office applications.

     Conducts data analytics for planning and research purposes, as requested and appropriate.
     Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations.
     Provides oversight and direction to department efforts.
     Develops and oversees department strategy to meet and support the strategic plan.
     Leads complex organizational change efforts.
     Develops “experts” and “expertise” throughout the department and seeks employee input.


    Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or business related field or informatics is required.

    At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a healthcare setting, with focus on clinical informatics systems.

    At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a healthcare setting, with focus on clinical informatics systems and population health management, including experience in EHR and database maintenance.

    Certified Health Informatics Systems Professional (CHISP), Informatics Nursing Certification
