Overview

In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient) and staff across all disciplines and departments is responsible for performing selected clinical duties including administrative/clerical duties, basic patient care and/or performing administrative tasks associated with patient intake.

Responsibilities

The MA may be assigned to support the COVID Testing Team and/or Registry Team in response to the pandemic.

COVID Testing Team Primary Duties
• Knowledge of COVID - MA will be instructed on COVID with training materials
• Knowledge of which patients may be eligible for COVID screening
• Screening symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID patients per CDC guidelines
• Fill out COVID demographic form--name, DOB, address, insurance
• Document symptoms on form
• Acknowledge relevant co-morbidities
• Investigate exposure--where and when
• Hand paperwork to admin staff (who perform consent and ROI)
• Understand PPE requirements and reason behind wearing PPE (per infection control guidelines)
• Understand necessity of infection control--not touching patient or any item patient has (i.e., driver's license, insurance card, etc.
• Correct donning and doffing of PPE
• Swabbing
• Confirm MAC has verified insurance and printed patient labels
• Verify label with patient's first and last name and DOB
• Instruct patient on how long test takes to run
• Educate patient on COVID/quarantine with written instructions given
• Perform Nasopharyngeal swab
• Provide flu vaccines to patients as directed
• Process labs

COVID Registry Primary Duties
• Negative results calls
• Vital interaction message documentation
• Issuing letters - includes issuing the following types of letters: results, return to work and unable to contact letters.
• Required to document these interventions in the EMR.
• Phone queue - Answering incoming patient calls: includes relaying negative results, positive results, providing
education and issuing results/return to work letters.
• Voicemail - Answering incoming patient voicemails: includes relaying negative results, positive results, providing
education and issuing results/return to work letters.
• Return to sender letters

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Understand PPE requirements and reasons behind wearing PPE (per infection control guidelines)
• Understand necessity of infection control--not touching patient or any item patient has (i.e., driver's license, insurance card, etc.)
• Ability to be able to withstand extreme temperatures in full PPE

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Medical Assistant Diploma and/or National Medical Assistant Certification verifying graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent military healthcare experience.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
• Completion of a medical assistant externship
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prefer at least of at least one year of experience as a medical assistant.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Will be required to maintain a current CPR certification during employment.
